Cons: Sunlight passes through mesh, which increases the chance of algae developing over the winter. Cons: A solid cover takes more time and effort to put on and take off. Removing it typically takes two people, where mesh can be handled by one. Solid covers cost more than mesh and don't last as long. Throughout the winter, you'll need a cover pump to drain water after rain.

Pros: The lowest-cost option, typically under $500.

Cons: The water bags must be filled and positioned correctly to keep the cover from sliding into the pool. Water and debris need to be cleared regularly or the cover will sag. This cover cannot support the weight of a child or animal and is not a safety cover.

Pros: The most convenient safety option available. It can be opened or closed at will, and adults, children, and pets can walk on it. During the summer, it keeps debris out whenever the pool is not in use.

Cons: The highest-cost option. Without proper maintenance, motors can burn out, pulleys can fail, and the liner can be damaged if the cover is not "burped" correctly.
